Tenancy Deposit Scheme
The new deposit legislation applies strict rule to the holding of deposits, the registration of deposits, arbitration of deposit disputes, and, where the requirements of the legislation are not met, there are significant financial penalties applicable to the errant landlord, which would include a mandatory reimbursement of 3 times the equivalent of the deposit held to the tenant, should a dispute arise and not be settled or passed on to the tenancy dispute service within 14 days.
